Fish Oil: What You Need To Know
Mariah May, CSCS
Fish is a great food source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Don’t let the term “fatty” scare you, it's actually a very important type of essential fat that our body needs! An essential fat is a fat that our bodies can’t make on its own and needs to be gathered from outside sources. Omega-3s play an important role in our cells. They make up parts of the cell membrane and help our cells make hormones that regulate blood clotting, reduce inflammation, and manage the contractions and relaxation of our artery walls. Because of the effects that omega-3s have on the body it has been shown to help prevent heart disease and stroke, overall improving your heart's health!
Fish may not be the easiest food to fit into your diet from a cost and supply standpoint, so one way to get your daily dose of omega-3s in is by replacing cooking and preparing fish with taking fish oil. Fish oil has such a high concentration of omega-3s that it only takes 1g of to reduce overall cardiovascular mortality and myocardial infarction (lack of blood flow to the heart).
If you are looking for a reputable clean brand to get your fish oil from, we currently have fish oil in stock at the gym from the brand SFH (Stronger, Faster, Healthier). Their fish oil is third-party tested, meets CRN, GOED, WHO, and Prop 65 Standards, and is sustainably sourced from Alaskan Pollock. It contains DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids, EPA has anti-inflammatory effects while DHA is known for boosting brain health. Overall a great high quality product that we believe in and for the rest of April it will be 20% off!
